Nicky Barneby
I am a book designer and typographer, specialising in colour illustrated book design. I also design fiction, poetry, literary non-fiction, series styles, reports and other complex documents. Over nearly three decades I have designed books for publishers, large and small – Penguin Books, Hodder & Stoughton, Hardie Grant and Profile Books, to name just a few – as well as designing for clients such as ODI, University of Edinburgh Business School and the Wyss Academy for Nature at the University of Bern. Every book or typographical project presents its own challenges. I combine creative typography with technical expertise to design solutions that will engage and guide the reader. My work includes project management; art direction of illustration and photography; collaboration with authors, editors and other designers. I have a BA in Graphic Design and Post Graduate Diploma in Printing & Publishing from the London College of Communication, University of Arts London. Prior to establishing my own studio I was Design Manager at Penguin Books. I have also taught design and typography at Colchester Institute.
